Harry's Gives Back

Harry Caray’s Restaurant Group is a proud supporter of many charitable organizations, including Chicago Gateway Green, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the Wood Family Foundation.

Bartman Ball and Sun Times CoverHCRG has been a partner and supporter of Chicago Gateway Green since it was founded in 1986 by Don DePorter, late father of HCRG CEO Grant DePorter. Gateway Green was founded on the belief that beauty and sustainability go hand-in-hand, and continues to lead the charge in greening and beautifying the city of Chicago through sustainable landscaping, litter removal and native plantings on hundreds of acres along transportation corridors. HCRG donations to the charity exceed $400,000 plus in-kind donations.

When Harry Caray’s received worldwide attention for destroying the infamous foul ball that was deflected by fans during the Cubs’ 2003 playoff loss to the Florida Marlins, proceeds from t-shirt sales and other related events were donated to the JDRF in honor of Cubs legend Ron Santo. In total, HCRG’s efforts resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations to the charity.

Harry Caray’s is proud to host Woody’s Winter Warmup to support the Wood Family Foundation, started by former Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood and his wife Sarah. Harry Caray’s has hosted this event every year since it began in 2012. Funds raised from this event have been used to build a playroom at Lurie’s Children’s Hospital, hold a baseball clinic in Englewood and support an after school mentoring program in Lawndale.

Other charities we support on an ongoing basis include the Lynn Sage Foundation, Cubs Care and March of Dimes, among many, many others.
