Cubs’ Western Hemisphere Headquarters: Earliest Opener in Baseball History
“Cubs’ season opener in Japan started at 4 o’clock this morning Chicago time. The early hour did not stop Cubs’ fans from packing into Harry Caray’s restaurant to root them on. People started lining up at 2 AM. Nearly 700 fans settled in for all nine innings. Chicago fans turned on the charm during the 7th inning stretch sharing a serenade that was broadcast by satellite from Harry Caray’s in Chicago to the fans in Tokyo. Dutchie Caray led the crowd.”
